Sustainability

Designed to Last. Made with Respect.

At Fjord, sustainability isn’t a feature — it’s the brief. We build minimalist, durable bags from recycled, vegan-friendly materials, so you can move through the city (and beyond) with lighter impact.

Better by Design

Fjord products are engineered for the long haul: reinforced stress points, water-resistant recycled fabrics, and hardware selected for durability. Clean lines and considered details mean your bag stays relevant season after season.

Why RPET? RPET gives a second life to post-consumer plastic. Compared with virgin polyester, it can reduce energy use and emissions — without compromising performance.

What We Avoid

  • Animal-derived materials
  • Unnecessary coatings that hinder recyclability
  • Excess trims and single-use packaging

We’re actively exploring mono-material constructions and take-back pathways to support end-of-life recycling.

Responsible Partners

We prioritise manufacturing partners who align with our Supplier Code of Conduct, covering fair wages, safe workplaces, working hours, anti-corruption, and environmental stewardship.

  • Onboarding assessments and periodic audits
  • GRS 4.0 where applicable for recycled inputs
  • Preference for BSCI / SEDEX audited facilities

Chemicals & Safety

We align with REACH-style Restricted Substances guidance to keep harmful chemicals out of our products and supply chain. We continuously evaluate alternatives and work with suppliers on safer chemistry.

PFAS-Free by Design

At Fjord, every material choice is made with intention. Our bags are crafted without the use of PFAS — the harmful “forever chemicals” commonly found in water-resistant gear. Instead, we rely on high-performance coatings and recycled fabrics that meet rigorous global standards.

Packaging Reduced

The best packaging is less packaging. We specify recycled and recyclable materials where possible, and remove anything you don’t need.

  • Recycled mailers / cartons
  • Paper-based protection (no foam where avoidable)
  • Right-sized boxes to reduce air in transit

Footprint Focus

We’re mapping our carbon footprint and prioritising reduction over offsetting. Logistics consolidation, lighter materials, and durable design help us do more with less.

Giving Back

We’re proud to be a 1% for the Planet member. This means that 1% of every sale is donated directly to organisations working to protect and restore the natural world. It’s a simple commitment with a meaningful impact — because the places that inspire our designs deserve to be cared for.

Our commitment: Give back with every purchase, support high-impact environmental partners, and share transparent updates in our forthcoming Impact Report.

Care & Repair

The most sustainable bag is the one you keep using. We provide care guidance and aim to expand access to repairs and spare parts.

  • Free online care guide
  • Spare parts for common wear points
  • Repair suggestions & partner directory (coming soon)

End-of-Life

We’re exploring take-back options and mono-material designs to support recycling at end-of-life. Until then, we help customers donate or repurpose products responsibly.

A Note from the Team
